TELEFONIX + PDT PRESENT
After spending a week at Airline Passenger Experience Expo (APEX), the Telefonix and PDT teams came back inspired to give thought to how we’d envision the passenger experience of the future.
Following Cisco’s presentation on Application Centric Infrastructure, which will accommodate the connectivity and massive amount of data resulting from the growing Internet of Things movement, we brainstormed ideas on how connectivity in the form of a truly holistic ecosystem of applications and product solutions could transform the airline passenger experience.
This report walks you through how innovations in three core areas: tracking, social and comfort, could revolutionize the journey from airport departure door to airport arrival door.
While we understand the many restrictions and complex nature of the aerospace industry affects the feasibility of some of these ideas, we felt exploring ideas along the STEP - STRETCH - LEAP continuum is important to ultimately forwarding technological and experiential innovation that is attainable.
So join us as we travel through the passenger experience of the future.
YOU NEVER LOST YOUR LUGGAGE AGAIN?
What if your bags had smart tracking capabilities that were tied in with your holistic passenger experience app? You could follow the movement of your luggage through the airport, in the sky and at arrival, making it possible to plan the most efficient use of your time before your luggage is ready for pickup on the carousel.
WITHIN YOUR APP YOU COULD NOT ONLY TRACK YOUR LUGGAGE, YOU COULD USE YOUR TIME TO CONNECT WITH OTHERS?
You decide: flying for business and want to network with like-minded professionals? Flying for pleasure and want to game with the person in the next seat? Or do you just want to be left alone?
Expanding the seat choice beyond window or aisle, passengers can choose what type of person they’d like to sit next to, essentially creating classes beyond business and economy.
YOU AND THE CREW WERE EQUIPPED WITH STATE OF THE ART QUEUING SYSTEMS THAT MADE ORDERING, REQUESTING, AND EVEN VISITING THE RESTROOM QUICKER AND EASIER?
You push the button to hold your place in the bathroom queue, and once it’s your turn, you’re notified on your mobile device or on the in-seat entertainment screen and don’t have to wait outside the door. Flight crew have wearable devices that alert them to issues or requests without passengers having to shout out or wait patiently for recognition of the call button activation.
YOU COULD USE THE TIME ON THE AIRCRAFT TO COLLABORATE OR VISIT COMFORTABLY?
Flying with colleagues to present to a prospect or traveling with the family to Disney... both would benefit from seating that enables more than staring straight ahead.
YOU COULD USE YOUR FLIGHT TIME TO STAY HEALTHY?
Get some exercise and have your workout logged via your fitbit or other activity measurement device. Compete with other passengers to burn the most calories. Have the air purified around you to minimize the risk of catching a bug while enroute.
YOU COULD SHOP ON THE PLANE AND HAVE EVERYTHING WAITING FOR YOU FOR PICKUP BEFORE YOU GET YOUR BAGGAGE?
You order a phone charger, sunscreen and a gift for Mom that will be waiting at the gate; meanwhile you know you’ll be able to still make it to baggage claim before your luggage comes out because the tracker the airline attached at the beginning of your trip is notifying your app that your baggage will be coming off the belt in 20 minutes.
Check and track bags throughout the journey
Choose to network, socialize or be left alone
Passengers and crew are connected and enabled
Collaborate, socialize, or relax
Breathe in purified air and get a little exercise
Pick up items you ordered enroute and before your baggage arrives
